Meet Alicia: Student Doing What’s Best For Her Future

“I really wanted to further my education after high school and do something that would impact or even just help others feel better.”

At the age of nine, Alicia Lua-Thiessen’s parents split up, her father moved out of state and her mother became an alcoholic, changing her whole world. Later in life, she said she had the freedom to do what she wanted, but realized she “needed to do what is best” for her. She wanted to further her education after high school and “do something that would impact or even just help others feel better.” Alicia decided HACC was for her.

She said, “The instructors are very well educated, take the time to work with individual students, respect student privacy and give the best educational experience I have ever had.”

Alicia thanked one HACC professor for inspiring her, saying, “She pushed me and gave me so much help with my studies, she went above and beyond to make sure I understood and retained the material she was teaching.” Alicia added, “I am so happy and thankful to have someone like her to inspire me to be the person I am today here at HACC and for not giving up and still going strong!”

After completing HACC’s Nursing Program, Alicia plans to eventually obtain her master’s degree and become a nurse practitioner (NP).
